Latest on twitter:
apparently @comex has released the new userland exploit for iDevices (ipod touch, iphone, ipad) running various firmwares and bootroms. myself? running an iDevice on firmware 3.1.3 with the spirit jailbreak, but this new jailbreak apparently works through the safari mobile browser. so, on your iDevice, make sure it’s running the latest firmware (4.0 or 4.0.1) and using the safari browser, go to: jailbreakme.comĀ if @comex can run a jailbreaking scheme through safari, what does that say about iOS security? scary stuff…i’ll report back with the results. UPDATE: don’t really know what exactly is going on, but i’d imagine a lot of late iOS 4 adopters (such as yours truly) may be downloading the latest firmware release from apple, i have an estimated time of a little under an hour before the firmware is downloaded and installed. UPDATE 2: from what i’ve read apparently, iphone 4 users are running into Facetime and MMS problems after using the exploit which can be fixable and involves restoring the phone from back up and jailbreaking again. UPDATE 3: well, after an hour or so of downloading iOS 4, i had an additional 30 minutes of wait time as jailbreakme.com has been inundated by requests (so if after sliding to jailbreak, you’re met with a blank page of the site’s background, then keep trying, took me 30 minutes to get through), i have it, iOS 4 is fairly spiffy with multitasking, folders support for apps (condensing 3 pages of apps into one, amazing)…the jailbreak’s, of course, an untethered jailbreak meaning the device can be shut off without risk of losing the jailbreak or having to be synced with iTunes upon booting.
